Empowering Patient Voices Launch

Hope for Migraine and Migraine Meanderings are excited to announce the launch of our Empowering Patient Voices initiative. In 2021, this initiative will be introducing three approaches to Empowering Patient Voices:

  • Out from the Shadows: Real Voice of Migraine
  • Out from the Shadows: Migraine Behind the Mask
  • Out from the Shadows: Let’s Talk Migraine

The Real Voice of Migraine, which launched on February 27, empowers patient voices through the use of short videos from a personal perspective. This project is a new and important part of our initiative. We want the public to understand this is more than “just a headache”—migraine is a complex neurological disease that affects many aspects of our lives and is often debilitating. By sharing their voice, we believe this will help empower people who live with migraine, help others not feel so alone, and help bring this disease “out from the shadows.”

Real Voice of Migraine

Often in sharing our stories, a raw truth comes out that can neither be heard nor seen like the written word. By looking into our eyes, we hope others will see past the smiles we so often wear, and start to see the pain behind the smile. People with migraine often hide in the shadows, and we want to give another way for them to share what life with migraine is really like and the pain they hide.

Question of the Month

For the Real Voice of Migraine, there will be a “Question of the Month” posted at the beginning of each month. Participants will be given the opportunity to create a 30 second to 1 minute video on the Flipgrid platform. The question of the month will have various themes, but all will surround migraine awareness. Again, we believe that giving patients another avenue to express their voices will be both empowering for the participant and educational for others. Each month we will work with a video editor to capture the highlights of the responses to create a monthly montage video that will be shared throughout our social media channels to bring awareness to the Real Voice of Migraine.

Once you have recorded your video you will receive a video consent request via email giving you the option to have parts of your recording(s) including in these video montages. Of course, this is entirely optional, but we encourage you to be a part of this exciting opportunity!

Thanks To Our Sponsors

Empowering Patient Voices would not be possible without our generous sponsors, and we want to take this opportunity to thank them for supporting patient advocacy and helping us raise awareness about migraine disease. Thanks go to Amgen Novartis, Allergan, Lundbeck and Theranica for supporting this initiative in 2021!
